How long can I stay in a PadSplit?

November 11, 2024

PadSplit understands that modern life demands housing solutions as dynamic as you are. Whether you’re in town for a few months or looking for a more extended stay, our flexible accommodation options are designed to match your unique circumstances.

The standard path: 12-week commitment

Our most popular option starts with a 12-week commitment period. This duration provides enough time to settle in and establish a routine while maintaining the benefits of shorter-term housing. It’s perfect for seasonal workers, students, or anyone needing a stable living situation with a clear timeline. After 12 weeks, you’ll automatically move to a week-to-week plan for even more flexibility.

If you move out before 12 weeks, PadSplit won’t charge you any fees. You’ll only pay the property owner a move-out-early charge equal to two weeks of rent.

Our premium flexibility upgrade

For those who prefer complete control over their length of stay, we offer an unlimited flexibility option. With a one-time payment of $175, you gain the freedom to depart whenever it suits you – no minimum stay required. This option is a great choice if your plans are uncertain or you just want more control in your living arrangements.

What is PadSplit’s maximum stay?

Great news! As long as you continue to pay your membership dues, there is no maximum stay limit for PadSplit. Most PadSplit residents stay for an average of eight months, but some stay for years. With savings of about $317/month, staying in a PadSplit long-term is a great way to pay off debt, save for a new home, or even start your own business.

For PadSplit member Kenisha, that flexibility made all the difference. As a recent college graduate launching her own business, she needed stable housing without the stress of unexpected costs or fluctuating rent. PadSplit delivered exactly that—giving her the financial predictability to save consistently, grow her cleaning business, and reinvest in her future. Her story is a reminder that the right housing can create real room to move forward.

How is PadSplit different from other rentals?

PadSplit is a mid-term rental—a more affordable, flexible alternative to short-term options like Airbnb and traditional long-term leases. It offers the stability of a longer-term space without the rigid commitment, at a fraction of the cost.

Our rooms start at $132/week, including Wi-Fi and utilities, or $528 per month. In comparison, Airbnb costs an average of $1,148 per week, or $4,592 per month. On the other end of the spectrum, long-term rentals cost around $1,642 per month before adding in utilities and Wi-Fi. Plus, they usually require you to agree to a year-long lease, which may not be a good fit for your lifestyle.

For someone between apartments, starting a new job in a new city, or waiting for a permanent lease to begin, PadSplit can offer a middle ground between expensive short-term stays and traditional long-term rental commitments.

PadSplit’s commitment to flexibility

No matter which plan you choose, PadSplit offers several perks and benefits that allow you to rent on your terms.

Do I need to sign a lease for PadSplit?

No. The PadSplit membership is designed to be flexible, with no lease required. While traditional rentals often require a year-long commitment, PadSplit gives you the freedom to move in and out when you need to—whether you’re a travel nurse on a short assignment, a worker relocating for a new job, or someone looking for stable housing during a transition without the pressure of a long-term lease.

PadSplit’s customizable payment structure

A unique feature of PadSplit is that you control how and when you pay. Choose a weekly or bi-weekly payment plan and select the day of the week that works best for you, making it easy to budget and align payments with your income schedule. If you’re a freelancer, gig worker, or contractor who gets paid every other Friday, for example, you can set your rent due date to match.

PadSplit also accepts multiple payment options, including debit cards, credit cards, prepaid cards (some restrictions apply), and bank transfers (ACH).

If you’re one of the nearly 60% of working Americans without a traditional 9-5, don’t worry—you don’t need a traditional job to stay in a PadSplit. A lot of PadSplit residents are gig workers, self-employed, or receive government assistance. We accept a wide range of income sources, including:

Recurring deposits (child support, alimony, or regular family support)

Employment (part-time or full-time)

Government benefits (unemployment, disability, Social Security, etc.)

Self-employment income

Seamless transfers between properties

PadSplit makes transferring between homes a happy and seamless experience.

Life changes, and your housing should be able to keep up. One of PadSplit’s most appreciated features is the ability to transfer between properties whenever needed. Whether you’ve found a job in a different neighborhood or simply want to experience a new area, you can easily switch to one of the 30,000 + rooms in our network—even during your initial commitment period.

To initiate a transfer, just log in to your member dashboard or contact our member support team to start the process.

Your first transfer is free. For any transfers after that, you’ll just need to pay your new room’s move-in fee (usually around $100).
