Empathy and optimism are core values at PadSplit. That’s why we’ve built a system that empowers residents to find spaces that accommodate their lifestyles. Part of that process is not locking anyone into long-term commitments. We give you flexibility, whether you’re looking for housing for a short gap in living arrangements or to stay for an open-ended amount of time.
If you’re wondering how short or how long you can stay in a PadSplit, this resource will give you all the details. Let’s dive in.
Follow the rules, pay each week = stay as long as you want
There are some basic PadSplit rules for minimum stays (we’ll go over them in a minute). But as far as a maximum PadSplit stay, there is none.
Some PadSplit residents will stay in a space for a few weeks before circumstances change and they need to move on. Others settle in for a few years at a time. PadSplit spaces are designed to be the best value, either way.
Weekly room rent typically ranges from $138 to $393. That comes out to between $598 and $1,703 per month.
In comparison, for short-term rentals, Airbnb is an average of $1,183 per week. That comes to $5,126 per month (and that’s with a lower, long-term pricing structure).
In contrast, traditional long-term rental agreements lock people in for a year or more at a time. (The average contract length in the U.S. hit an all-time high of 12.8 months in 2025.) They have steep penalties if you move out early, and they still cost an average of $2,000 per month.
While the range of a PadSplit stay can vary quite a bit, the average stay is around eight months. That’s why we call our approach a “mid-term rental.” We split the difference between the short-term Airbnb model and the long-term traditional rental. This gives you the best of both worlds: the stability of a long-term space with the flexibility and convenience of a short-term one.
What is the PadSplit minimum stay?
In most cases, a PadSplit minimum stay starts with a default commitment period of 12 weeks. This gives you the best rates, no extra fees, and plenty of time to settle into your new home. After 12 weeks, you move to a week-to-week plan that provides infinite flexibility.
If you move out before 12 weeks, PadSplit won’t charge you any fees. You’ll only pay: (1) a move-out-early charge to the property owner equal to two weeks of rent, and (2) a small move-in fee if your new host charges one.
The unlimited flexibility upgrade
Another option is to pay a one-time fee of $175 for unlimited flexibility. This one-time payment gives you the ability to move to
The ability to transfer, with or without a small fee, makes PadSplit a great option if you’re:
- Saving for a home.
- Switching careers.
- Attending school.
- Looking for temporary housing between major life events.
The flexibility of PadSplit rooms
PadSplit membership has several other perks and benefits. For instance, your first transfer is free if you choose to move to another home within PadSplit’s network. You can also choose if you want to pay weekly or biweekly. You can even pick which day of the week you pay.
Everything is included in a single payment (including utilities), and you get access to virtual healthcare via Teladoc as an added perk.
How to move between PadSplit spaces
The PadSplit network is quickly growing. We had more than 16,500 rooms in 2025 with over 40,000 people in our PadSplit community.
With so many rooms across so many markets, you might find that a space has opened up nearby that suits your needs better than your current option. If that happens, you can log in to your member dashboard or contact the support team to initiate the move-out and move-in process.
Remember, you have one free initial transfer. After that, you may have a small fee (typically around $100).
