Can you have guests on PadSplit?

November 25, 2025

Sharing a home with other housemates is part of the PadSplit experience. Our innovative room rental site offers furnished living spaces with no long-term agreements (just simple week-to-week payments). This unique approach often leads to a lot of questions for renters who are considering booking a room. One of the most common is whether guests are allowed in a PadSplit home.

The quick answer is no (by default), but there are many cases where it’s allowed. It’s not black and white. Let’s break down this question and take a look at how PadSplit maintains high shared housing standards without creating unnecessary isolation for our residents.

Are guests allowed in a PadSplit home?

The straight answer here is no. Guests are not allowed in a PadSplit rental by default. In addition, residents may not share entry codes with other people. Only individuals with approved PadSplit memberships may enter the home.

However, there are circumstances where a guest can visit residents during daytime hours. In other select cases, overnight guests are welcome, as well. It all depends on the property owner’s rules.

Setting up custom house rules

Each PadSplit home comes with a set of Default Editable Rules. They’re located in the house manual section of your property profile. These are easily accessible to support PadSplit’s transparent approach to guest policies and overall security. The initial setting for house rules is as follows:

  • No animals except approved service animals
  • No kitchen appliances in bedrooms
  • Due to the nature of coliving, no guests are allowed
  • Quiet time is observed from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • No outside furniture is allowed

While these are the default settings, a property owner can create custom house rules by deselecting certain items from the default list. Hosts can also choose between details, such as allowing guests but not allowing overnight guests. This creates specific PadSplit spaces where guests are allowed, while others remain member-only spaces.

The adaptable nature of PadSplit housing

Why the flexibility with guest rules? Because PadSplit isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. The nature of our platform gives property owners a degree of autonomy and flexibility in how they offer their spaces to approved members.

This includes allowing each host to adjust the guest policy based on the kind of space they’re trying to create. Some hosts don’t allow guests because it undermines their efforts to create PadSplit rooms for rent designed for peace and tranquility. Others embrace a more community-minded approach and are even fine with guests staying overnight.

Prioritizing security and control with guest policies

Having a variety of policies in place serves you as a resident, too. Many residents use PadSplit to find quiet spaces where they can focus on work or school. Some simply desire uninterrupted routines.

Others may even want more control over their living space. This could be due to past experiences with other living spaces or similar concerns. Either way, having a variety of guest policies in place caters to the needs of both property owners and residents. It respects roommate boundaries and maintains a greater degree of privacy.

The difference between guests and unauthorized persons

At PadSplit, we use a few different terms to identify different people in our spaces:

  • Members/residents are approved individuals who have applied and been accepted into the PadSplit community.
  • Hosts/property owners own the spaces and set many of the rules in the areas they oversee.
  • PadMates are member roommates living in a shared PadSplit space in various rooms of the home.
  • Couples are accommodated on a case-by-case basis based on approval from hosts who have set up a PadSplit for couples.
  • Prospective members are equipped with their own temporary passcodes.
  • Unauthorized persons are individuals who are not approved residents, property owners, prospective members, or approved guests.

For more information, visit our Membership rules page. (These guidelines are consistent with all PadSplit homes, whereas guest policies are at the discretion of the owner.)

If you’re wondering if you can find a guest policy that aligns with your preferences, start by signing up for a membership. (PadSplit applications are just $19.)

From there, set a budget for what you can pay in rent and start searching for options in your ideal area.

When you find a room you like, confirm the guest policy with the host. This ensures your new space aligns with your preferences, whether you want to maintain a busy social life or seek a quiet place to retreat at the end of each day.
