Meet Stas Shulga, Lead QA at PadSplit

January 26, 2022

Over the past four years, PadSplit has grown from a handful of team members to more than 100 fully-remote employees located across 18 countries. We’ve kicked off a new series of employee spotlights to help you get to know the employees behind the keys.

Next up in the PadSplit Employee Spotlight Series: meet Stas Shulga, Lead QA at PadSplit.

The PadSplit team is fully remote. Tell us where you’re based.

Kiev, Ukraine

When did you join the PadSplit team?

I joined the team in August 2019 when the team was significantly smaller and had no idea where PadSplit would go. I really liked the idea of PadSplit and the team as I interviewed, and I’m still here.

What is your favorite core value and why?

Empathy, because you cannot do the right thing with anger or indifference inside.

Tell us what a day in the life of a Lead QA at PadSplit looks like.

The QA team is responsible for delivering the product each week. I spend the first half of my day checking the tasks that have been finished by our devs and chatting with them if they have any questions. I manage a team of 5, distributing tasks, discussing problems, and planning our upcoming sprints. After that, my evening is devoted to meetings since there is a time difference in Ukraine.

What are you working on that you are most excited about? Why?

The QA team works on the frontline. Our job is to deliver a bug-free experience to our Members and Hosts, and I like the responsibility of being the last checkpoint.

How do you stay engaged with your team in a remote environment? What does collaboration look like in a remote environment?

Our team stays engaged mostly via Google Meet and Slack. This collaboration looks a lot like a computer monitor with a lot of smiling faces on it.

In our weekly All Hands meeting as an ice breaker, we ask new employees to share two truths and a lie about themselves for the team to guess. Let’s play with you. Tell us two truths and a lie about yourself.

I was born in Ukraine.

I was living in Denmark.

I have never been to Paris.

Thanks for sharing more about what you do, Stas! Stay connected with Stas and PadSplit on LinkedIn.

Psst: Stas has visited Paris and loved his trip! Did you guess correctly?
