Does PadSplit have security cameras?

October 14, 2025

At PadSplit, privacy and security both matter. It is up to your host whether they use security cameras.  Some homes have cameras, but not all do. When cameras are present, they should only be in common areas where there’s no expectation of privacy, and they must always be disclosed to members.

Here’s what you need to know about PadSplit’s camera policy and how hosts balance comfort, transparency, and peace of mind.

PadSplit’s approach to cameras and recording devices

PadSplit requires hosts to maintain a fair balance between protecting members’ privacy and keeping shared homes secure. Hosts may use cameras or other recording devices to safeguard their property, but there are strict rules about where and how they can be used.

Where cameras are allowed

Cameras and other recording devices can be installed:

  • In shared common areas, such as living rooms, hallways, and kitchens
  • In exterior areas, such as porches, driveways, and yards

These devices are typically installed to protect the home and its residents — for example, to deter package theft, ensure maintenance access, or prevent unauthorized visitors.

Where cameras are not allowed

Cameras or any recording devices are strictly prohibited in private areas, including:

  • Bedrooms
  • Bathrooms
  • Exterior areas where the camera can see into a bedroom or bathroom
  • Any other space where a member has a reasonable expectation of privacy

This rule applies to all hosts, without exception.

How camera use is disclosed

Hosts are required to clearly disclose the presence of any cameras or recording devices:

  • In the PadSplit property listing, before a member books a room
  • In a message to current members, if devices are added later

You can check for camera disclosures by scrolling to the House Rules or Amenities section of a PadSplit listing before booking.

When you move into a PadSplit, your move-in serves as your consent to any disclosed devices.

What kind of devices does this include?

Recording devices include anything that captures or transmits video, images, or sound, such as:

  • Doorbell cameras
  • Outdoor security cameras
  • Baby monitors
  • Noise decibel monitors

If you’re ever unsure whether a device in your home counts as a recording device, you can always reach out to PadSplit support for clarification.

Member rules about cameras

Just as hosts have guidelines, so do members. Members are not allowed to install personal cameras or recording devices anywhere in the home without the host’s written permission. This includes phone-mounted cameras, baby monitors, or other devices used for recording.

Unauthorized recording devices are a violation of PadSplit’s safety policy and may result in immediate membership termination.

What to do if you’re unsure about cameras in your home

If you ever notice a recording device that wasn’t disclosed in your listing or have questions about one in your home, message your host through the PadSplit app or contact PadSplit Support. The team can review the concern and ensure it complies with PadSplit’s camera policy.

Accountability and compliance

All hosts and members are responsible for complying with local, state, and federal laws regarding recording devices. PadSplit periodically monitors compliance with this policy, and any violations can result in a host’s property being removed from the platform.

What this means for you

PadSplit’s camera policy is designed to keep you informed, comfortable, and secure. You’ll always know if cameras are present, and you can be confident they’ll never be in private spaces.
