Why is there a $25 charge after my due date?
Last updated August 18, 2025
To keep your PadSplit experience smooth and cost-effective, it's crucial to maintain a $0 balance by the end of your Dues Day.
Payment Timing Policy
- A $25* charge applies if you carry a balance after 11:59 PM EST on your Dues Day
- This $25 helps cover the administrative costs of manual tracking and collection of unpaid dues by PadSplit and hosts
- Example: For a Friday Dues Day, you're billed Wednesday. Full payment of your entire balance is due by 11:59 PM EST Friday to avoid the additional $25 charge.
Why the $25 charge is necessary
When payments are received after the due date, it requires substantial administrative resources from both PadSplit and your host to:
- Manually track outstanding balances
- Process collections communications
- Coordinate payment follow-ups
- Manage account reconciliation across our customized billing cycles
The $25 charge helps offset these additional operational costs, allowing us to maintain affordable housing options for all members.
Tips for avoiding the $25 Charge
- Prioritize housing over other expenditures by paying your PadSplit bill before making other purchases
-
Turn on autopay
- Pay when you are billed in advance of your Dues Day
Make Your Housing a Top Priority
Your PadSplit home is more than just a place to live—it's the foundation for your success and stability. Here's why keeping your payments on track is crucial:
- Avoid Additional Charges: Paying on time helps you avoid additional charges that can add up quickly
-
Protect Your Credit: Timely payments can positively impact your credit score, opening doors to better financial opportunities
- Maintain Peace of Mind: Staying current on your housing costs means one less thing to worry about, allowing you to focus on your goals
Remember, every on-time payment is a step towards financial stability. It might mean making some short-term choices, but the long-term benefits to your wallet and wellbeing are worth it!
